Council Capsule - May
Claudia Zimmerman, Secretary
The summer worship schedule begins June 12, with one service each Sunday at 9:30 am. This will bring all members together for a few weeks. Music personnel have arranged to alternate the type of service for the first few weeks, with changes to be determined later. Here’s the plan:
June 12 – Casual Service, Sharon TerBeek and the Praise Band
June 19 – Classic Service, Carole Kaufman at the organ
June 26 – Casual Service, Sharon TerBeek and the Praise Band
July 3 – Classic Service, Carole Kaufman at the organ
July 10 – Outdoor Casual Service on the patio, Sharon TerBeek and the Praise Band
The President’s Dinner was to be held Sunday, May 22, in Fellowship Hall to celebrate the gifts and contributions of all members. Our thanks to President Randy Rouse, who arranged for the complete meal.
The revised Bylaws of Faith have been submitted to the synod. Approval is expected.
Pastor Kevin and Jamie Robertson attended the Synod Assembly in Kalamazoo on May 22‒24.
An effort to establish a Stephens Ministry at Faith was started, with members attending a workshop recently on the ministry. Arrangements will be made for anyone interested in learning more about this valuable care-giving ministry.
The Facilities group has been busy and, thanks to our custodian, several maintenance and cleaning projects have been completed. The group is working on development of a “Green Team” for our buildings to help us all be better custodians of our resources.
Jennifer Henderson is now our Church Historian, using her training and expertise to assist Gene Lyons in setting up an archive of historic church materials. This will fit well with plans for a celebration of Faith’s sixtieth anniversary next year.
Nursery Note: A different procedure for the Nursery will be in place during services this summer. Our nursery director, Tiffany Woodhead, has accepted an internship in food services on Mackinac Island for the summer. Anyone wishing to take a child to the Nursery, which will be staffed by a volunteer, will be asked to remain with the child, since two adults must be present to meet insurance and state requirements. A monitor and speaker will allow all in the Nursery to view and hear the service.
Pastor Kevin had a very busy April, with many visitations, special services, and planning for First Communion. He also attended the Leadership Conference in Ohio and led the meeting with Rev. Roger Hardy, who has a program that can help us to review and develop our vision for Faith in the future. Pastor Kevin is looking forward to a class for new members, Vacation Bible School, and Confirmation Camp.
Our website, www.faithlutheranchurchgr.org, was somehow corrupted and our communications ministry has been hard at work redesigning it to get the website back up and running. As part of this redesign, you will notice the new design of this council article, which will be more fitting for the web page, presented in a report form rather than meeting minutes, so that council information can be viewed in a timelier manner. Collaboration is great!
