Ministry of Discipleship

DISCIPLESHIP  The disciples were those called to follow Christ Jesus as he lived out his ministry on earth. Being a disciple today is a process of following the risen Christ through study, education, and supportive gathering. We provide the following ministries intended to support us as we follow our Lord and grow in our faith.

Sunday School—We believe that exposing our youngest members to Bible Stories and figures, prayer, and the basis of our faith is an important calling for this congregation. Therefore, we provide weekly Sunday School programs for our Kindergarten through Elementary age friends during the fall, winter, and spring. The programs we offer are modified to fit the needs of the children participating. Currently we have a small number of children in this age range, so we often have these children gather together for stories, activities, crafts, movies, and refreshments. However, when there are more kids whose ages and abilities cluster well, we attempt to provide them with separate activities specifically targeted toward their skills and interests. The volunteers who work with these children use SPARK (and other) curriculum materials.

Confirmation Classes—At Faith Lutheran Church we offer a three-year Confirmation program in which our kids gather around the Word during Sunday School time during the school year, participate in Youth programs, offer service to members of the church and community, and participate in Summer Confirmation camps and retreats. The Sunday morning program rotates from Old Testament one year to New Testament the next and the third year the kids focus on the Catechism (Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, and Sacraments).

Bible Studies—At this time we have two active Bible Study groups that meet weekly for fellowship, study, and prayer. One meets at 9 am Wednesday in the kitchen for snacks or breakfast. The other group meets at 7 pm Thursday. Each week we read the lectionary readings together and raise questions, challenges, applications, and inspirations we receive from these readings. Members of these groups are encouraged to be active participants as we hear the Word and discuss how God is working in our lives and leading us on in Faith.
